Individual & Relationship Depth Therapy

Depth Psychotherapy For Individuals & Couples

You may look successful from the outside — thoughtful, capable, accomplished — yet find yourself struggling in the places that matter most: intimate relationships, family dynamics, identity, and purpose, or struggling to get out of the cycles of anxiety and overwhelm. Many of the individuals and couples I work with are navigating complex lives, blended families, and demanding external relationships while quietly carrying unresolved wounds, attachment injuries, or generational patterns that no amount of "trying harder" ever seems to resolve.
I understand, I've been there. And I've helped hundreds of others just like you.
Dr. Melissa George, PhD, LMFT

For Those Who Are Ready To Go Deeper
I am a Jungian-oriented, depth psychotherapist with advanced training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and attachment-based therapies, including PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy), The Gottman Method, and IFS/IFIO (Internal Family Systems Therapy and Intimacy From the Inside Out). A thread throughout all of this is a deep understanding of attachment and how it develops and impacts us and our relationships; I've worked and trained in this specialization since 2004. I work with individuals and couples who want more than symptom relief — they want clarity, wholeness, and relationships that feel secure, alive, and align with their values. They want to make lasting change.

Based in Boulder, Colorado, I provide therapy for residents across Colorado and Vermont, as well as for couples counseling and group support for clients all over the world.

A Sophisticated, Integrative Approach
My approach integrates analytical psychology, IFS, attachment science, and relational neuroscience with transpersonal and archetypal perspectives. This allows us to work simultaneously on:
-
Deep emotional healing
-
Nervous system regulation
-
Attachment repair
-
Relational patterns that repeat across partnerships and families
-
Identity, purpose, and inner authority
For couples and individuals seeking relationship support — particularly those in blended families — this work is especially powerful. Relationships often activate old attachment wounds, loyalty binds, parenting conflicts, and unspoken grief. I help individuals and couples slow down, understand what's happening beneath the surface, and build secure, resilient relational foundations that support both the partnership and the family systems they exist in.
I have decades of advanced research and training in couples relationships, family of origin, parenting, and its impact on us. As well as advanced training in specific therapy models:
-
Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT; Dr. Stan Tatkin): an attachment based couples approach that supports the nervous system and integrates developmental science.
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS; Dr. Richard Schwartz): a depth-oriented, parts-work based approach integrating mindfulness, meditation, and inner child work to build consciousness.
-
Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO; Toni Herbine-Blank): an extension of IFS for relationships to help partners understand and tend to the "parts" of our inner world — such as protective, reactive, or vulnerable parts — that show up in our relationships.
-
The Gottman Method (Drs. Julie & John Gottman): longest-standing, most researched model known for skill building to strengthen intimacy, connection, communication, and long-term partnership.
-
Thousands of hours in Jungian training, supervision/consultation, and coursework.
-
Two decades of research, writing, teaching, and training in family of origin, couples relationships, parenting, attachment and mental health.

Experience That Runs Deep
I bring over two decades of academic study and professional experience in psychology and child/family development, including research, teaching, and advanced clinical training in what truly supports mental health, relational wellbeing, and long-term change. I have trained therapists and consulted on best practices in attachment and couples work as well.
Equally important, I bring a deeply-lived understanding of inner work. My own path has included decades of sustained engagement with dreamwork, meaning, depth psychology, and somatic and relational healing myself. This allows me to meet clients not only with clinical precision, but with humility, presence, and respect for the wisdom already alive within them.

Given this extensive personal and professional experience, I often work with other healing professionals, including psychotherapists, counselors, nurses, massage therapists, and other health professionals.

Why Depth Work Matters
Many people attempt to solve their struggles solely through quick, external fixes — adding coping strategies, trying harder to be better at managing life's overwhelm, or by changing partners, parenting strategies, jobs, or circumstances — without addressing the inner world that quietly shapes their choices and reactions.

However, true healing requires turning inward.

By engaging the unconscious — through parts work, relational attunement, dream exploration, and archetypal understanding — we uncover the hidden loyalties, protective strategies, and inherited patterns that once served us, but now limit us. As these layers soften, clients often experience:
-
Greater emotional freedom and self-trust
-
More secure, connected relationships
-
Relief from chronic anxiety, tension, conflict or shutdown
-
A renewed sense of meaning and direction
This work supports not just healing, but conscious living — creating an outer life that reflects who you truly are, rather than who you learned to be.

Healing Happens In Relationship
Trauma occurs in relationship — and it's also healed in relationship.

Whether we're working individually or as a couple, the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a living space for repair, safety, and growth. I offer a steady, compassionate presence as you explore difficult emotions, aspects of the psyche in your shadow, and the places where you feel stuck or uncertain. You do not have to do this work alone.

Is This Work Right For You?
My practice is best suited for individuals and couples who:
-
Are motivated, reflective, and ready for meaningful change
-
Value depth, nuance, and emotional honesty
-
Are willing to invest in themselves and their relationships
-
Prefer the privacy and safety of a self-pay therapeutic service
If you feel a quiet pull toward deeper healing — for yourself, your partnership, or your family — I invite you to reach out.
