COUPLES SESSIONS: DISCERNMENT

SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO? A ROADMAP TO RELATIONSHIP CLARITY

Navigating relationship uncertainty can be difficult and confusing. Discernment sessions will help you and your partner come to terms with whether separation/divorce is right for you at this time. It's designed for couples who are entrenched in marriages or partnerships where divorce looms heavy. Likely there is ambivalence within one or both of you, where you have one foot in the relationship and one foot out the door. This often leaves one partner “leaning out” of the relationship and one “leaning in.”

Our sessions aren't for couples in new stages of relationship. They're for longer-term couples grappling with the unsettling prospect of at least one partner considering an exit. This approach provides a quick, intense protocol to safely support couples in exploring their doubts, fears, and desires. It empowers couples to make informed decisions about the future of their relationship with a sense of relief, whether the decision is reconciliation or amicable separation.

After our initial 2-hour session, we’ll determine if you would like one more session or up to 5 sessions to make a decision. During these sessions, we’ll dig deep and explore your problems, so that with clarity and confidence in the relationship you can understand what has happened to the relationship and each person’s role in contributing to the problem.

The result is a decision to move along one of three paths:

  1. Staying together (married),

  2. Separating/Divorce, or

  3. A six-month commitment to couples therapy with a clear agenda for personal change and with divorce off the table during this time.

If you’re ready to explore if discernment sessions are right for you, reach out today via email or phone. We’d be happy to schedule a brief 15 minute consultation with you to determine if this is the right approach to couples work for you at this time.
